| DAVE
is here. He is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. He is an alien
robot with attitude. He is half humanoid, made of metal
and has a personality to match.
Unlike some alien visitors to our world, this enigmatic entity is not to be feared; he is fun, friendly and wants to meet people. He also needs a few screws tightened. Then again, who doesn’t? This charismatic character will entertain you and his abilities will amaze you. You’ll want to see him again and again. OK, so that’s the hype, but what is DAVE really all about? Project DAVE is a quest to create a life-like humanoid robot which will be able to interact with a human partner in an entertainment role as though it is a real, living entity. The robot will have the ability to express a range of human characteristics passed on to him by an operator in real time. The operator will wear a sensor rig which will copy all his movements and transfer them remotely via a radio link to DAVE’s control systems. DAVE will then move just like his human counterpart to give the appearance of a living mechanical being with a real personality. |
Specially-designed software and electronics are at the heart
of the ability to translate fine movements of the operator’s body into
corresponding movements of DAVE’s head, arms and hands. DAVE will be
able to manipulate objects and interact with his environment and the
people around him.
DAVE will be a host, a presenter, and an interactive partner - he will be all these things and much more. The potential is unlimited. The media personality of the next age has arrived. Project DAVE is under way and making good progress. A video of his development is being made from conception to completion. The concept of DAVE can be developed further to realise it’s full potential, and a phase II of DAVE is already planned for the future.
